About the project
The architecture project focused on the total transformation of a typical Alentejo property, originally built spontaneously, and now reimagined as a true "Refuge". Located in a landscape marked by vineyards and olive groves, the property offers a setting where time slows down, allowing visitors to surrender to the peaceful rhythm of the region. Here, the days are filled with long lunches under the shade of ancient olive trees, walks among the vineyards, and contemplation of a stunning sunset over the vast Alentejo plain. It is a place designed to reconnect with nature and the essence of Alentejo.

Challenge
The great challenge of this architecture project was to balance contemporary functionality with the preservation of local architectural authenticity. It was necessary to completely transform the layout of the house to meet the modern needs of future occupants, without, however, compromising the traditional character that defines the region's identity. Furthermore, creating spaces that offer striking and photogenic experiences was a priority. Each area was carefully designed to inspire unique moments, encouraging conviviality between guests and immersion in the surrounding tranquility.

Aproach
The architectural approach focused on the fusion between tradition and modernity, highlighting vernacular elements typical of the region. The whitewashed walls, the emblematic floor-standing fireplace, the striking chimney, and the generous shaded areas evoke the ancestral practices of the Alentejo, providing comfort and authenticity. The concept of "Refuge" guided the entire project, creating an architectural project that strengthens family and social ties, offering corners of conviviality, rest, and contemplation. To reinforce the connection with local culture, authentic experiences such as participation in the production of wine and olive oil were integrated, connecting visitors to the deep roots of this land rich in traditions and history.
