About the project
The Harvets project stems from the desire to reclaim an essential relationship between dwelling and cultivating, where the house becomes a direct extension of the land that surrounds it. Located in São Simão, Azeitão, this four-bedroom single-family home is conceived as a weekend retreat, reinterpreting the spirit of old rural houses. The architecture proposes a serene daily life, where natural light, views, and proximity to the vegetable garden and backyard are part of the domestic routine. The kitchen and dining room are the heart of the house, spaces for sharing, memory, and conviviality, where tradition and contemporaneity coexist through natural materials, soft tones, and an honest, welcoming, and timeless architectural language.

Challenge
Among the main challenges of the Harvest project is the need to rehabilitate the main property and its annexes while preserving their rustic character, while introducing modern solutions for comfort, functionality, and durability. The organization of the interior spaces required a careful balance between formal simplicity and efficiency of use, ensuring fluidity and comfort in a dwelling intended for temporary but intensive use. Outside, the redesign of leisure areas, including the swimming pool, vegetable garden, and seating areas, involved a sensitive reading of the scale of the place, the relationship with the surrounding landscape, and the natural transition between interior and exterior. The choice of resistant materials, suitable for frequent use and sun exposure, was also a central point of the process.

Aproach
The project approach is based on a sensitive reading of the place and the collective memory associated with rural houses. It proposes an architecture of restrained gestures, where modernity emerges discreetly, dialoguing with the existing structure. The chromatic palette, composed of whites, beiges, soft grays, and light wood, reinforces the luminosity and creates a neutral base that values natural textures and recovered elements. The interior/exterior relationship is continuously reinforced through generous openings, fluid pathways, and transitional spaces that invite the experience of the backyard and the exterior. Overall, the HARVEST project creates an emotional experience marked by nostalgia, comfort, and revitalization. A place where inhabiting is, once again, about harvesting, caring, and belonging.
